Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is a sensitive test for loss of white matter integrity (Niogi 2008). Conventional MRI visualizes focal structural lesions, but may not detect diffuse axonal injury (DAI), particularly in the acute period, where injury appears to be predominantly axonal edema, rather than transection (Levin 2008).
While there is no standardized approach to this analysis, we evaluate a defined set of white matter regions with comparison to an age matched cohort to provide relevant comparison.
