Quantitative measurement of defined brain structures has been utilized most extensively in risk stratification for Alzheimer's disease development (the ADNI initiative). The Radia 3D Lab utilizes NeuroQuant, the only FDA approved segmentation software, for automated hippocampal volume measurements and comparison with age controls from the ADNI data set.
We routinely utilize this technology for measuring hippocampal asymmetry in the evaluation of mesial temporal sclerosis and in multiple sclerosis followup. Both grey matter volume and hippocampal volume have been demonstrated to function as objective metrics, correlating with memory and disability in patients with multiple sclerosis.
